Secure Community Network’s Camp Safety training is a three-part, in-person training series with each course intended for a specific audience: camp counselors, camp staff, and camp leadership.

Each course is 45 minutes with additional time dedicated to questions and walk-through exercises.

Camp Safety training brings key components of SCN’s larger program offerings, including BeAware: An Introduction to Situational Awareness™, CATT: Countering Active Threat Training™, and Stop the Bleed® together with other topics such as: identifying risks and vulnerabilities, identifying suspicious people and vehicles, planning for emergencies, and leading and communicating in crisis.

Camp leadership training focuses more on preparing your staff to respond during emergencies.

Topics Covered:

  • Identifying risks and vulnerabilities
  • Addressing risks and vulnerabilities through awareness, planning, training, and action
Why was this course developed?

Camp is a time of reflection, community, and engagement central to the emotional,
physical, and mental health of the Jewish community. Camp is an opportunity to make
lifelong friends, learn new skills, and deepen one’s connection to their faith. As family is
a cornerstone of the Jewish faith, camp becomes an extension of this family, providing
a community central to healthy growth and development.

Secure Community Network is committed to ensuring a quality camp experience for
those who are part of the Jewish community. Safety and security are hallmarks of a
quality camp experience, and well-trained staff provide an essential role in the mission
of ensuring a safe camp experience for our children and teenagers. The Camp Safety training is designed to bring research-based best practices to those in counselor and leadership programs within the Jewish camp community.

How was this course developed?

The collaborative effort between the Secure Community Network (SCN) and the Foundation for Jewish Camp (FJC) marks a groundbreaking initiative aimed at fortifying the safety, security, and resilience of Jewish camps across North America. Through a comprehensive approach involving regional security workshops, expert guidance, and ongoing support, this initiative seeks to equip camp leadership with the necessary tools and knowledge to enhance security preparedness.
