Increase Student Safety on Campus
Secure Community Network’s College Campus Safety Initiative training is a 45-90-minute training course designed specifically for college-aged Jewish students.
The goal of this training is to provide Jewish students at college campuses around the nation with professionally led, best-practice safety training intended to increase student safety and ability to navigate various risks and hazards.
Focused on scenario-based discussions and “talk-throughs,” as well as hands-on activities, this course has been designed and will be most effective when conducted in-person. It can be modified and delivered virtually, if necessary.
Topics Covered:
- Situational awareness
- Avoiding and/or navigating potentially volatile situations, specifically on campus
- Foundational de-escalation principles
- Responding to an active threat
- Stop the Bleed® principles for identifying and responding to life-threatening bleeding

Why was this course developed?
Ensuring Jewish life and Jewish students can exist safely and security on our campuses has been a core tenet of the Secure Community Network’s work.
A comprehensive approach to security will not only protect Jewish students but will encourage and enhance student participation in Jewish life on campus, thereby deepening their Jewish identity, and increase the comfort level of those in the community. These proactive measures will have the ability to address the concerns of parents who are rightfully concerned about sending their children to unsecure campuses.
How was this course developed?
With increased acts of antisemitism, harassment, and assault directed at Jewish student and Jewish organizations, in 2016 the Secure Community Network partnered with The Jewish Federations of North American, Hillel International, Alpha Epsilon Pi, and Chabad on Campus to launch a first-of-its-kind Campus Security Initiative to ensure the safety, security, and resiliency of Jewish campus life.
In September 2020, this program was expanded with the formation of a deeper partnership between SCN and Hillel International and the hiring of a full-time SCN security professional at Hillel International as its Director of Safety and Security.
The partnership between SCN and Hillel International has seen tremendous results, helping Hillels and students to gather more safely by creating a culture of preparedness throughout the movement. This culture of preparedness has been cultivated through training, security assessments of Hillel space, building relationships with law enforcement and security partners, incident response assistance, and facilitating Hillels receiving grant money for security enhancements.
SCN, working with and through other key partners to include law enforcement, works to ensure the safety and security of Jewish students and campus life through providing professionally led, best practice safety and security resources through a comprehensive security initiative designed specifically for campuses.
