Alan Poland
Regional Director, Region XI (Florida)
Alan Poland serves as the Regional Director for Region XI (Florida) for the Secure Community Network (SCN). In this role, Alan is responsible for the oversight, development, and management of the SCN Regional Security Advisor (RSA) and SCN Community Security Director (CSD) programs in Region XI (Florida).
In 2020, Alan joined SCN as the Community Security Director for the Jewish Federation of South Palm Beach County. He came to this position following close to 20 years of academic and practical experience in the fields of private security, law enforcement, and counter terrorism.
During his more than 15 years as a member of the NYPD, Alan held several specialized positions as a Police Officer and Detective. These positions include being assigned as a liaison to the Jewish community for the Chief of Department where he interacted with elected officials, community leaders, and NYPD executives. While assigned to NYPD’s elite Counterterrorism Division, Alan planned and developed protective measures for the mitigation of terrorist attacks and the protection of local critical infrastructure. Many of his assignments included conducting risk and threat assessments, dignitary protection, and training visiting departments in blast mitigation and building design.
His latest assignment was an investigator for the Special Victims Division where he also consulted on
numerous Hate Crime investigations.
Academically, Alan holds a degree in Security Management as well as a Masters of Strategic Intelligence
with a concentration in Terrorism Studies. He is also certified in numerous counter terrorism, intelligence, surveillance, and emergency management courses. As a university adjunct instructor, Alan developed and taught classes focused on counter terrorism, intelligence, homeland security, and criminal justice.
