Alex Silverstein was appointed Community Security Director for the Jewish Federation and Foundation of Northeast Florida with Secure Community Network in March 2023. In this role, Mr. Silverstein provides security consultations, training, and direct response to critical incidents in support of the Jewish community in the Northeast Florida region. Mr. Silverstein considers his position as Community Security Director as a natural extension of an over quarter-century-long career protecting the public and is honored to contribute to the safety and security of the Northeast Florida Jewish Community.

Prior to this role, Mr. Silverstein served as a Special Agent with the Federal Bureau of Investigation for over 26 years and was assigned to the Washington Field Office, FBI Headquarters, and the Jacksonville Division. During his FBI career, Mr. Silverstein developed expertise in criminal and weapons of mass destruction investigations; this work was recognized by two United States Attorney’s Offices in two high profile criminal investigations. A significant portion of Mr. Silverstein’s FBI career was in crisis and critical incident response, where he also served as the Weapons of Mass Destruction Coordinator and a senior member of the FBI’s Evidence Response Team. Mr. Silverstein was also cross trained as a paramedic and served as the Jacksonville Division’s Principal Medical Operator and senior tactical medic. On September 11, 2001, Mr. Silverstein was one of the FBI’s initial responders to the terrorist attack at the Pentagon. He has deployed to multiple significant special events and crime scenes, including the 2001 anthrax attacks, the 2015 Papal visit, the 2016 attack on the Pulse Nightclub, and the 2017 and 2021 Presidential Inaugurations. Mr. Silverstein also served as Adjunct Faculty for the FBI Academy in the areas of criminal investigations, weapons of mass destruction and emergency medicine. Prior to the FBI, Mr. Silverstein was a Legal Assistant/Investigator and an Assistant State’s Attorney for the Prince George’s County State’s Attorney’s Office in Maryland.

Mr. Silverstein was born in Washington, D.C. and raised in Prince George’s County, Maryland. He received a bachelor’s degree in government and politics from the University of Maryland and a Juris Doctor from the University of Baltimore, School of Law.
