Tim Torell
Director, Jewish Community Security - Jewish Federation of Northern New Jersey
Tim Torell joined Jewish Federation of Northern New Jersey (JFNNJ) in November of 2021 as the Jewish Community Security Director for Bergen, Hudson & Passaic counties, serving as the primary security contact for JFNNJ. In this role, Tim administers a security program that provides Active Shooter, Stop The Bleed and Cybersecurity training, and more, to over 100 Jewish organizations, including schools, daycare centers, synagogues, camps, assisted living facilities, and other Jewish facilities.
During Tim’s 43-year career with the Englewood City Police Department in Bergen County, he held several distinguished roles, including Detective Bureau Commander for more than a decade where he oversaw all criminal investigations in a diverse city of approximately 50,000 residents. Additionally, Tim was the lead Domestic Violence instructor at the Bergen County Police Academy, he was his agency’s Municipal Counterterrorism Coordinator, was an expert in local and trans-national organized burglary crews, was the Bias Crime Coordinator, and was a member of NYPD’s elite “Torah Task Force.”
